In the Emergency Response Guidebook, information is organized by color to match what you need on scene. For a small fire involving a hazardous substance, the guidance you’d follow comes from the orange sections. Those pages are the on-scene action guides for each material, and they tell you the recommended actions to take to fight the fire, including appropriate extinguishing methods, required protective equipment, and what additional hazards to anticipate. The blue pages focus on identification and initial isolation distances, the green pages cover public safety information, and the yellow pages describe hazard classifications and properties.
